Astro Hospitality

Repositioning a trusted supplier into a true hospitality partner

Overview

With the acquisition of Berica, a fellow hospitality supplier, on the horizon, Astro faced a familiar challenge: how to evolve without losing what made them successful in the first place.

For over two decades, Astro had built strong equity as a reliable supplier of hotel guestroom amenities. As their offering expanded into Food & Beverage and QSR, the opportunity was clear: reposition Astro from a product-led supplier into a genuine hospitality partner, without alienating the loyal customer base that had fuelled their growth.

Whether you’re creating a unique overnight stay, or pouring the perfect daily brew, hospitality is all about exceptional customer experiences.

We’re the team behind your team—with years of industry experience, reliable service, and thousands of quality hospitality products ready to be sent next-day anywhere in New Zealand.

We make exceptional easy.

The Challenge

Evolving the brand without losing trust

Astro’s reputation had been built on consistency, service, and strong relationships. For many customers, they were already more than a supplier: a trusted extension of the team. But their brand didn’t fully reflect that.

As their capabilities expanded into new categories, perception remained anchored in guestroom amenities. The risk wasn’t just being misunderstood; it was being overlooked by new audiences who didn’t realise the full extent of what Astro could offer.
Any shift needed to feel seamless for existing customers. This wasn’t about reinvention. It was about alignment.

A Data-Driven Approach

Grounding strategy in real customer insight

Before evolving the brand, we needed to understand what truly set Astro apart: not internally, but in the eyes of their customers. Through qualitative research, we held 13 in-depth conversations with a mix of current and former Astro and Berica customers, ensuring the insights weren’t skewed by loyalty alone.

Astro wasn’t chosen because it was the cheapest option. Customers valued something far more meaningful: reliability, responsiveness, and service that went above and beyond, simplifying complex procurement and delivering consistently in time-critical situations. Again and again, the same idea came through in different words: for many, Astro wasn’t just a line on an invoice. It was the reason a hotel could open its doors on time.

The insight was clear: Astro’s true point of difference wasn’t what they sold. It was how they showed up.

The Strategic Shift

From supplier to partner

Rather than repositioning Astro as something entirely new, we focused on amplifying what was already true. That included a heritage customers already trusted: Astro was founded in 2000, and today it’s still a family business, run by the founder alongside his six sons. The new brand story wasn’t about starting over; it was about carrying that legacy forward.

The strategy centred on reframing Astro as a proactive hospitality partner: one that anticipates needs, simplifies operations, and helps customers deliver exceptional experiences.
This aligned directly with the brand’s core pillars:

  • Proactive partnership
  • Exceptional experiences
  • Responsive and reliable service

It also opened the door to new audiences in Food & Beverage and QSR, without disconnecting from Astro’s existing base.

The Creative Solution

Expanding the brand, not changing it

The creative response built on Astro’s existing identity, evolving it to reflect their expanded role.

At the centre sits a simple but powerful platform:
“We make exceptional easy.”

It captures both the functional and emotional value Astro delivers, making complex hospitality operations feel seamless so customers can focus on the experience.

From there, we developed a full messaging framework built around a “you and us” dynamic:

  • You create the experience
  • We make it easy

This reinforces partnership while allowing flexibility across sectors and touchpoints.

Visually, a warmer, more refined colour palette replaced the previous starkness, introducing depth and approachability suited to the F&B space. Photography shifted from product-led imagery to real hospitality moments, capturing both the work behind the scenes and the experience it creates. The result is a brand that feels more human, more collaborative, and more aligned with the environments it serves.

Bringing the Brand to Life

Consistency across every touchpoint

With the strategy and creative platform established, the focus shifted to rollout.

We developed a suite of tools and templates to ensure the brand could be applied consistently across the business, including:

  • EDM and social media templates
  • A website reskin, with restructured navigation, categories, and product pages built around how customers actually shop
  • Marketing collateral and sales tools
  • Detailed brand guidelines
  • Ongoing messaging support

The relaunch coincided with Astro’s 25th year in business, turning “25 years as your hospitality partner” into a rollout hook that doubled as proof of the new positioning, backed by real signs of growth like a new distribution warehouse more than twice the size of the last. The brand’s values came through in how Astro does business, too: initiatives like Beyond Skin Deep, which repurposes empty guestroom toiletries into fence posts, made “responsive and reliable” something customers could see for themselves.

It gave Astro’s team a brand they could carry forward with confidence.

The Outcome

A brand ready for what’s next

The result is a brand that better reflects the business Astro has become, and the one it’s continuing to grow into. It strengthens their position with existing customers by reinforcing what they already value, and opens genuine opportunities in adjacent sectors by clearly communicating the breadth of their offering.

Astro’s category is a crowded one. But their difference is now clear: not in what they sell, but in how they make it easy.

Astro didn’t need to become something new. It just needed to be seen for what it already was: a partner, not a supplier. A problem-solver, not just a product provider.

A brand that makes exceptional, easy.
