Cycle Nelson
Brand repositioning and strategy for Nelson's cycle tour leaders

Overview
Chris and Bernie are the owners of a successful tourism business, but the name and identity Gentle Cycling no longer reflected who they had become. Following the acquisition of a third business, they were operating three services under different brand names within the same category — creating confusion and limiting their ability to scale.

A brand workshop
They engaged Downing to step back and rethink their positioning. Through a brand workshop, we worked with Chris and Bernie to unpack their offering, clarify their audience, and make strategic decisions about how their business should be structured and marketed.
From this, Downing developed a clear brand architecture designed to unify their services while allowing each to retain its strength. We introduced and named a new parent brand to represent the full offering across the Nelson Tasman region — bringing all three divisions together under one cohesive identity.
From this, Downing developed a clear brand architecture designed to unify their services while allowing each to retain its strength. We introduced and named a new parent brand to represent the full offering across the Nelson Tasman region — bringing all three divisions together under one cohesive identity.
From there, Cycle Nelson was born.
We created a distinctive, lifestyle-driven tourism brand that reflects both the breadth of their offering and the personality behind it. The visual identity is bold and modern, combining high-energy pink and black with natural landscape imagery — striking a balance between premium, grounded, and attention-grabbing.
Just like Chris and Bernie, the brand is confident, considered, and built for growth.
This was brought to life through a high-performing website, designed and developed to deliver a seamless user experience aligned with a wide spectrum of customers — from those seeking relaxed rides along the Great Taste Trail, to thrill-seekers chasing heli-biking adventures.
They call it, Effortless Adventure.
